Home in Tampa Bay: The Perfect Staycation

Written by , Posted in Travel

Spending seventeen hours on the road alone with my three dogs is not exactly my idea of fun. However, as soon as I saw the “Welcome to Florida” sign, I knew that the long trip was going to be worth it. I was overcome with excitement about reconnecting with everyone and being home for two full weeks.

While my best friend and I had initially talked about planning a little getaway for one of the weekends, we ended up deciding that a staycation was all we really needed. After all, our hometown is a city where many people vacation. We knew we wanted to be active while we enjoyed our time catching up. Being from the Tampa Bay area, we decided that there was no better place for our staycation than my little condo at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club, which is located in Palm Harbor, Florida (just outside of Tampa.)

Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club is best known as the home of The Valspar Championship PGA Tour.  Its beautiful property boasts seven pools and four amazing restaurants, not to mention the pristine views found from everywhere on the property.  Once you enter into the gates of this resort, you will feel as though you are barely even in Florida anymore.

Below are my top four reasons why everyone should add Innisbrook to their list of places to visit (or live):

The Restaurants. My first night home at Innisbrook, my friend and I went to the Market Salamander Grille and opted to sit outside on the patio as the sun was starting to set. The scenery was serene and a glass of Rose proved to be the perfect refreshment after a long day at work.  The two of us enjoyed a nice dinner and even engaged in conversation with a few other resort guests. It seemed as though everyone we spoke to had the same positive outlook on Innisbrook, and all of our conversations revolved around the resort’s remarkable beauty and amenities. This was the perfect spot for us to catch up, enjoy a casual low-key dinner and a nice charcuterie plate. However, If you are looking for more of an upscale place to dine within the gates, I highly recommend Packard’s Steakhouse.

The Pools. As I mentioned earlier, there is no need to even leave the gates of Innisbrook once you arrive here (or if you live here). The property has seven beautiful pools. “The Lochness” is the largest pool and is a great place to spend time if you are looking for lively day. This pool has multiple water slides, live music and a great lunch menu to boot. This is a perfect place for families to bring their kids as well. However, if you are in the mood for more of a relaxing pool day, you can kick back and enjoy the peace and quiet at one of the smaller, more quaint pools like the “Copperhead” or the “Island.”

The Amenities. In addition to the pool scene, Innisbrook boasts perfect running trails, a driving range, four incredible golf courses and state of the art tennis courses.  If you do choose to stay here, it is an absolute must to try your hand at a little bit of golf or tennis. Whether you are a beginner or you have never played a day in your life, you can schedule a private lesson with one of the pros. My friend and I took an hour long tennis lesson with Vincent and he was so patient and knowledgeable. If golf is more your speed, you can schedule a private lesson with one of the golf pros (I strongly recommend Dawn Mercer.) You will be surprised at what brushing up on (or learning) the basics can do for your game. You never know, you could develop a love for a new hobby. Even at the worst case, you will have had some good old fashioned fun out there. The tennis lesson was one of the highlights of my stay.

The Indaba Spa. Everyone can use a little downtime here and there. The newly-renovated Indaba Spa is one of my all-time favorite spas. At the Indaba, it is easy to enter into a world of tranquility and forget all about any stress you may have. Although it is on the high-end side, you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a full day of relaxation. I recommend purchasing a single service (such as a massage, a facial or even a nail treatment) and then staying for the remainder of the day in order to enjoy some time soaking in the calm atmosphere this amazing spa has to offer. One of my favorite things to do at Innisbrook is spend the day getting a massage then enjoying some “me time” in the steam room and the jacuzzi. You can even opt to stay and have some lunch on the terrace after (or in between) your treatments.  If your budget allows, I highly recommend scheduling one of the full service packages. When I leave The Indaba, I feel pretty incredible.

Now that I have shared with you just how much I love Innisbrook, let me let you in on another little secret. You can actually purchase a condo of your own at this beautiful resort starting at just $80,000 a unit.  In fact, when I bought my condo back in 2005, I had no idea that this would be one of the best investments I could ever make.

When the PGA Tour rolls around every Spring, these condos get rented out like hotcakes. They are often used for corporate parties, events and meetings. If you own a condo here and you have clients that are looking to get away, it is perfect because you can offer them a nice place to get away to. Or if you are like me (and you split your time between two cities) this is an affordable and much more beautiful alternative to staying in a hotel.

If you live in the Tampa Bay area or you ever come to visit, I strongly recommend checking out the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club. Whether you are looking for a new place to live or even the perfect “staycation,” this resort offers a wide array of activities and appeal for families and individuals alike.
